Japan’s Superheadz has developed a digital camera capable of shooting both still shots as well as videos. Doesn’t sound that impressive yet, but wait. The “Sun & Cloud” camera is the world’s first photo and video camera that can self-generate enough energy for a full charge.
The camera features a solar panel on the top of the device, which soaks up enough sun to run the gadget while you’re out and about. If it’s a rainy day, users also have the option of manually charging the camera with a hand crank (kinetic energy) or through a USB cable.
Honestly, I don’t understand why anyone would choose to charge their camera with a hand crank when they have the option to charge it with a USB, but I guess it’s a nice feature to have if you’re not near a computer or outlet and need a bit of juice.
Sun & Cloud, which comes in both white and black, is capable of capturing in colour as well as black & white images.
While I’m not sure anyone will be replacing their nice DSLRs with this camera anytime soon, I do think it’s a fun photography gadget that I’d want to play with – especially for outdoor activities like hiking, camping, etc.
